Apprenticeships

Students are responsible for making arrangements with an apprenticeship sponsor before they apply. Individuals who have already completed a formal registered apprenticeship or who wish to complete the Trade and Technical Occupations Program while simultaneously meeting apprenticeship requirements are eligible for admission.

Apprentices who are currently registered must submit their Program of Training and Apprenticeship contract with their completed YCCC application. Those students seeking assessment of prior learning for a completed apprenticeship program will provide the necessary documentation to verify their successful completion of the apprenticeship program, i.e. certification documents, a schedule of training required by the employer, and other credentials that support the enrollment of the student.

Courses

Program courses are completely customizable to the student’s chosen career. An advisor helps the student select up to 15 career-related elective credits specific to the apprenticeship focus or to the likely career path within the field. A student-selected general education core complements this learning.

Learning outcomes

Students will be able to:

• Recognize and apply appropriate terminology within the chosen trade or technical occupation.
• Describe ethical and responsible behavior relative to the chosen technical occupation.
• Recognize the value of diversity in opinions, values, abilities, and cultures of colleagues and customers in a professional workplace.
• Apply problem-solving skills and quantitative analysis using technology relative to the trade or technical occupation.
• Utilize appropriate information resources to gather and disseminate technical information within the chosen trade.
• Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills in a variety of professional settings.
